This blog is about a family. We have our normal ups and downs. We have survived hard things like brain tumors and the sudden death of our mom/grandma, as well as other challenges. We have a lot of fun together and have many wonderful blessings. Our greatest blessing is the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our lives. It helps us get through our hard times and gives us hope.

SWAGGER WAGON

My friend posted this and it made me proud to be a mini van owner. For those of you who are "too cool" for a mini van, this is for you...

The Row of Old People

Recently we attended Stake Conference. Caleb decided to sit on Matt's lap and was looking down the long aisle of people next to us.

He said, "Dad, our row has a bunch of old people." Matt softly replied, "Yes."

The man sitting right next to them was in his late 80's and was sound asleep.

Then Caleb said, "And I think that one is dead!"

Matt and I did all we could to remain reverent. And luckily the guy was hard of hearing, too, because Caleb's comment didn't wake him up.

Phew!

State Republican Convention

This year we took the kids to the circus...

No, I don't mean Barnum and Bailey's...

I mean the Utah State Republican Convention.

I am actually surprised that more people don't bring their kids to the convention. It is a great social studies fieldtrip, so I talked Matt into bringing the kids downtown for the big event.

I had arrived earlier to help count credentials, but the kids got there in enough time to visit booths, see Jake Garn up close, hear Mitt Romney, Bob Bennett and Tim Bridgewater's speeches, and eat some candy. Of course they also got to give Senate President Waddoups a high-five, which is something they do every Sunday, too.

Tyler was interested in watching the Bennett people applaud, and some of the delegates hold up a thumbs-down, while Bob spoke.

They only lasted 45 minutes at this circus, but I am glad they got a taste of grass-roots politics at its best.

The look on Tyler's face in this photo kind of describes the whole group's enthusiasm about getting out of bed on a Saturday morning and coming...

I am coming to grips with the fact that they may take after their dad in this arena, and that a real circus may be much more entertaining to them.

Sigh.

Saving for a DS

Caleb, my 6 year old, has been saving his money for a DS. I believe a DS is over $100, so it has been sad to see him count his money every day and come up short by about $95.

He gets about $5 per month in allowance, so we have kindly suggested he wait until Christmas and see if Santa can help him out. A few days ago he wrote a letter to Santa, asking for his DS, and put it in the mail.

When I paid him his allowance the other day, I reminded him to pay his tithing.

"If you get five dollars, then you will pay 50 cents in tithing," I said.

"But why do I have to pay tithing?" Caleb whined.

"Because Heavenly Father has asked us to pay it," I replied.

Caleb then asked, "Is he saving for a DS, too?"
